WWDC
Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference starts today, with Steve Jobs' keynote at 10:00 PDT. I don't get to attend in person this year, but they do simulcast the keynote at the cafeteria here. I just got in to work, and I already see people walking across campus to get good seats.

The public broadcast will be delayed a few hours, but MacRumors has a live-updating web page where they'll be posting everything as it happens, and Gizmodo won't be far behind.

My WWDC keynote drinking game: I drink a shot every time Steve says "RSS". I shouldn't get more than mildly tipsy, though. The rest of you can play WWDC Keynote Bingo.

I am really mixed about the "one more thing." Safari on Windows? Seriously? On the plus side it's nice that Windows shops could now theoretically support Macs and iPhones more readily, but on the minus side this is one less reason for people to switch to Mac.

Oh well, more browser competition is a good thing.

Well, one of the strategic goals of Safari-on-Windows is to make it easier for web developers to test for Safari compatibility, since now they don't have to buy a Mac to do it. And growing Safari's market share will make compatibility more important to web developers.

And better website compatibility for the Mac's default browser then mitigates one of the reasons against switching (at least for people who don't install nonstandard browsers, which looks to be about 78% of Windows users.)

(BTW, I do sort of indirectly work on Safari for Windows, in that we had to completely rewrite the RSS framework to make it portable. I didn't do any of the work of making the new portable code actually run on Windows, though.)
